Coverage for Medically Necessary vs. Elective Procedures
Health insurance companies will typically cover dermatology procedures that are medically necessary, meaning they are required for the diagnosis or treatment of skin conditions that could cause serious health problems if left untreated. Conditions such as skin cancer, infections, or severe acne fall into this category.
However, dermatology procedures for cosmetic purposes, such as Botox, fillers, microneedling, coolsculpting and liposuction are considered elective and are typically not covered by insurance. These treatments, while not strictly necessary for the patient’s health, can improve appearance or self-esteem and are paid for out of pocket.
We also do not accept Medicaid at this time.
